Forest Service fire crews plan to conduct prescribed burning in the Gallatin Canyon this spring to help rejuvenate aspen stands currently in decline.
Prescribed burning efforts are likely to begin, weather and conditions depending, this weekend in the Durnham Meadow area, located at mile marker #54, north of Big Sky.
Following Durnham Meadow efforts, crews hope to continue prescribe burning efforts in the area south of Porcupine Trail (FS Trail #34) and south of Twin Cabin Trail (FS Trail #46), both located south of Big Sky, MT. The Porcupine area burning is part of the Porcupine Aspen Regeneration Project.
