IRS investigators searched a Belgrade chiropractor’s office Wednesday on “official business” and released no details.

Federal agents raided Pro Physio and Pro Chiropractic offices located at 8757 Jackrabbit Lane.

Karen Gurgel, IRS criminal investigation spokeswoman, said the federal agents were at the offices on “official business.” Gurgel said she couldn’t comment further.

According to its website, IRS criminal investigations include tax crimes, financial crimes, narcotics-related financial crimes and counterterrorism financing. Within those four categories, the website said investigations are further defined in emphasis areas, such as abusive tax schemes and employment tax fraud.

Jon Wilhelm, owner of the businesses, said in an emailed statement that he intends to cooperate with investigators and continue to provide care to his patients.

Wilhelm, however, did not wish to jeopardize the investigation and wrote that he cannot comment further.

“We look forward to providing further transparency regarding this matter at the conclusion of this investigation,” Wilhelm wrote.

Around noon Wednesday, agents wearing “IRS” and “Police Federal Agent” T-shirts went in and out of the building, as a man holding an assault rifle stood at the entrance. Several unmarked SUVs were parked in front of the office with license plates from Utah, Washington, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming.

In 2013, the Chronicle reported that Wilhelm spent a week interning with Team USA sports medicine at the U.S. Olympic complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wilhelm worked with athletes who suffered injuries from sprains, strains, herniated discs and dislocated kneecaps.

After a second week of his internship, Wilhelm was scheduled to travel with the U.S. bobsled and skeleton teams later that year to World Cup events in Calgary, Alberta, and Park City, Utah.
