Teeing Off

Manhattan Christian’s Jillian Frye tees off on the Par 4 Hole No. 7 Thursday at Headwaters Golf Course in Three Forks. The senior won after carding an 89.

Jillian Frye capped the regular season Tuesday the same way she began it in April. The Manhattan Christian senior posted the lowest score en route to victory at Double Arrow Golf Course in Seeley-Swan.

Frye, who is last year’s Class C state champion, carded a 97 to lead the Eagles to a team score of 442. Frye also carded back to back 89’s en route to winning the Three Forks and Gardiner Invitationals Thursday and Friday.

“She made it a sweep. That was one of her goals,” Manhattan Christian co-head coach Jeff Bellach said. “Now she’s just excited to get there next week and put it all together.”

Frye and her teammates will return to Seeley-Swan for the three-day state tournament. A practice round will be held Monday followed by two days of competition.

Rowan Putts

Three Forks’ Makenzie Rowan putts the ball on Hole No. 6 Thursday at Headwater Golf Course.

Only the front nine holes were available Tuesday as a handful of teams and about 30 golfers participated. Bellach noted the greens were slow, but expects conditions to improve by next week.

“It was good to play the course. The course hasn’t been open that long,” he said. “So the greens, I think they’ll be a lot better in a week. They’re really working hard to get it ready. I think that’s why they had the back nine closed is because they’re just trying to get everything ready.”

Alexa VanDyken carded a 99 for the Eagles, while Maddie Liudahl had a 114 and Natalie Walhof a 132. The boys were led by Caidin Hill, Trevor VanDkyen and Cullen Visser, who each carded an 81. David Aamot finished with an 87.

“They didn’t post scores, so I don’t know where we stacked up,” said Bellach. “(But) the boys had a pretty good day.”

On Thursday, the Eagles’ girls won the team title with a 413, while Sweet Grass County and Manhattan rounded out the top 3. VanDyken placed third with a 102, while Walhof was 8th with a 107. Liudahl and Shayla VanDyken rounded out the team with a 115 and 125, respectively.

Trevor VanDyken led the Eagles Friday with a 79 to place second, while Alexa VanDyken was third for the girls with a 96.

“The weather wasn’t great in Three Forks, but they battled through some cold weather,” said Bellach. “Livingston it actually started out pretty cold and windy, but it turned out to be a decent day. It was good to play two days in a row and get ready for state that way.”
