Score one for the Outlaws

Kohler Briggs slides under the tag of Dillon catcher Dilan Starkel.

LIVINGSTON – Tanner Johnson threw a no-hitter Sunday afternoon in a 15-0 rout against Dillon. The Gallatin Valley pitcher put 16 Dillon players down of strikes and walked only three.

“It was rally nice to be able to do this,” said Johnson. “I haven’t pitched in a while so it got me back into the groove.”

Johnson had 10 straight strike outs before walking his first batter. He finished the game with three walks.

“It was really nice to throw and not have anything on my mind except the game,” said Johnson.

Johnson worked a head with his fast ball and curve ball.

“That’s the stuff he’s got and he can do that,” said Gallatin Valley coach Duwayne Scott. “It was nice to see him control the bottom of the line and be dominating over the better batters.”

The Outlaws (33-19) scored three runs in the first inning, five more in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a 15-0 lead.

Gianfranco Filippini led the offense with a 4-for-5 performance with two doubles. Justin Woodward was also 4-for-5 with a double, Jordan Carlson 3-for-4, and Johnson 2-for-4 with a double.

Carlson went the distance in a 16-6 victory against Dillon Friday.

The game didn’t start out on a good note with Johnson and Filippini each committing an error. Dillon capitalized on the two miscues with MJ Simkins scoring the two runners on his double to center field. But the Outlaws didn’t fold with two of the five errors in the contest.

“I was really proud of the team for not folding after that first inning,” said Carlson. “It took me five innings to get locked in.”

Carlson (6-3) had four strike outs, a walk and scattered six hits.

Dillon (20-33) had a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third frame when Gallatin Valley pushed six runs across the plate. The Outlaws put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth inning.Filippini also led the Outlaws in the contest with a double and home run. He was 4-for-5 from the plate.
