Rosters for the 6th Annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic were announced Saturday and four members of Belgrade’s state championship team were among the selections.

Seniors Olivia Cook and Erin Elgas, junior Kenna Thomas and sophomore Maddisen Tomasetti will represent the Panthers. Cook and Elgas will compete for the Army team, while Thomas and Tomasetti will play for the Marines.

The two-day tournament will be held Aug. 2-3 at the Belgrade Softball Complex, and will feature five teams and nearly 60 of the state’s top prep players.

Cook, Elgas and Tomasetti earned All-State honors this past season, while Thomas was a first team all-conference selection. The quartet helped the Panthers post a perfect 23-0 record en route to winning a third consecutive State A championship.

Elgas, who will play college ball at Brown University, finished with a 17-0 record in the circle. She was named the MVP at state after tying the record for the most strike outs in the tournament with 40.

Cook, who batted a team-best .615 at state and belted three home runs, finished with a team-best nine home runs.

The Army team also features pitcher Addy Hultgren, who led Huntley Project to the Class B/C title this past season. Manhattan’s Randy Cygan will coach the team along with assistants Dennis Elgas and Jack Gabrian.

Great Falls, which won the Class AA championship, will be represented by Sarah Conway and Rachel Porter on the Marines. The team will be coached by Plains/Hot Springs’ Michelle Bangen.
