Anyone living on the west side or central area of the Gallatin Valley understands commuting. We drive either to work or to purchase goods we can’t find in our community to Bozeman. We drive a lot.
Any roadway to ease the burden of that commute is appreciated and needed. It’s rarely a good idea to eliminate public roads.
There are only a handful of ways into Bozeman and all of those thoroughfares are packed.
The spur road provides a quick and easy way to drop into the South 19th Street corridor.
No one knows what the affect of the new Interstate 90 interchange will do to traffic patterns in the area. More than likely, it will help reduce a lot of stress on roadways.
With that in mind, the new interchange could possibly reduce the congestion experienced at the spur.
No one questions the potential danger of the popular intersection. But driving with cool heads, a stoplight and a reduced speed limit on either side of the spur road would a go a long way to address safety concerns.
We need more routes to combat the congestion in the valley, not less.
