Belgrade’s cross country team had a strong performance Friday at the Great Falls Cross Country Invitational.

The meet was split into four races and the Panthers’ Sam Nash won Race 2 with a time of 17:05.40. The senior posted the third-best time on the day at Anaconda Hills Golf Course.

“On the guys side we were short handed but we managed to get fifth out of nine teams,” Belgrade head coach Matt Hommel said. “Sam was third overall, and Jack Nash had an amazing kick and almost PR’d.”

Nash placed 15th in Race 2 with a time of 19:18.41. Kaden Lookhart (5th, 18:00.37), Aidan Brown (6th, 18:35.91), and Brandon Clingan (10th, 18:58.5) each finished in the top 10.

“On the girls side we raced super hard and got sixth as a team,” said Hommel. “Hannah (Giese) was our leader at 10th overall and Averie Gates had a really standout performance today.”

Belgrade’s girls competed in Race 3 and Giese finished third with a time of 21:47.11. Grace Stewart was 16th (23:14.52), while Averie Gates (23:15.28) was 17th.
