The pedestrian death on Jackrabbit Lane over New Year’s Eve was officially determined “to be nothing more than an accident,” Belgrade Police Chief Dustin Lensing told the Belgrade News this week.
“And we don’t foresee any charges coming against the driver,” he added.
Sheri Jackson Schneider, 60, of Sonoma, California, was visiting family in Belgrade when she was hit while crossing Jackrabbit, right at the Rocky Mountain Car Wash. She was hit at 7:43 p.m., and died on impact. “She was crossing in a dimly lit area, and wearing dark clothing. It was nothing more than a tragic accident,” Lensing said of the Dec. 31 crash.
“The driver had no time to react, and immediately stopped to render aid. There was no evidence of of speed or intoxication. Our condolences go out to the family, and also to the other party involved,’ the chief said.
Lensing said the other driver was local, and driving a light duty half ton pickup.
Schnieder’s funeral is scheduled for Jan. 21 at the Sonoma Valley Women’s Club in California.
